As Swivel says go to filehippo, there is Spybot and Adaware which I use both of these, very good. Also use Ccleaner from there also to keep computer free of buildup of clutter.

Anyone come across that XP anti virus 2008/9 thing that seems to be doing the rounds. Seems to be rather nasty once it takes hold. Found malwarebytes gets it off, but not much else.

Avorax Antispyware A small but seemingly effective program.

Ummmm noIts when people Google up this sort of cr@p, and get caught out with anti-viruses that are no more than viruses themselves, along with ones the work sweet, but lock up till you have paid..

Hence the name of the board "Computing" That doesn't mean "Only for computer people to chat amongst themselves" Its and open discussion forum for people to seek out help on computer issues.

My understanding of the Computing Category was for traders to come and ask advice from sessiond traders and expect a sensible response. It is way to cleaver to show how smart you are by not giving any advise at all and saying “Google it”. Just shows the inability one has to actually answer the question in the first place. Yes it could be goggled, as many things are these days, but to get a tried and true solution to a problem…will always be to ask someone with experience. Something and yourself obviously have none of.

I use Registry Mechanic and System Doctor. Unfortunately not too much help to you as you are looking for something free. Free isn’t always a good idea. I found that when I was looking for software of this kind, I came up with all sorts of weird and wonderful solutions. Unfortunately for many of them…you had to sign up and pay. I also inherited some viruses on the way, but my virus checker blocked most of them. Sometimes if you want something to work properly, you just have to pay for it. It’s a good idea to talk to others and here what works for them, and that is what you were trying to do here. Good luck.

The best free ones are CounterSpy V2, Spybot and AdAware will remove nearly 100% of infections all together

Re 6 LOL you have no idea. I was removing it from a PC at work and it faked a Blue Screen lol when I was removing it but if just forces itself tot he front of the screen. Its a pain but relatively harmless.

I have seen 6-8 infections this week yeah i had the fake bluescreen too. Gotta laugh at it, it seems to be a quite well done scam. As i said antimalware bytes seems to work the best. Have had one infected so bad it was hiding the all programs menu, hiding the boot disk in my computer etc.

So where is the dr? does he only fling his vitriol and run? has he no backbone? I always find a mixture of free products is better than one 'cure all'

A technically minded person would have heard of tinyurl.. and could probably google it. but the rest of the world, couldn't give a rats backside.

Most 'normal people' would not have spewed out something as ugly sounding and ill conceived as "All would of had to done was...". Posted in the TMG thread but brought here for you - to appeal to Maugrims sense of fairness, and in case you can't find your way down off your high moral ground spot to us lesser mortals. Most normal people would have just seen someone who needed some advice and given it to them willingly.

I've popped over from Tme Gen just to add my agreement that you are indeed an arrogant and ignorant loser. Thanks for the opportunity :)

Thurzday / janienz1 & others I suspect you would have found that, IF it was mentioned in the FIRST MESSAGE that you had ALREADY done a google search, then there would have been a lot better responce to the FIRST question. . . . All to often ppl come here with a question & it's not till about TWENTY QUESTIONS/ ANSWERS later that we find out (even after asking) that the previous 20 or more questions could ALREADY have been answered in the FIRST question. Theres a lot of hiding requested facts going on by ppl asking for advice such as . .. .. . .con't

Con't . .. . . My computer won't startup after my kid had a play with it = My kid flipped the little red switch on the back of the psu & now it won't startup .. .. . Why won't my dailup work = my dailup won't connect now but that's only happened after the power surge we had last night. .. . . & heaps more like, my computer has been hijacked/infected, how & why did that happen = My computer has been hijacked/infected but I don't have any anti-spyware\adware\virus software or firewall, how can I clean my computer & what are some programs that work well that I can get for free.
