Im unhappy with ISP.. im with slingshot and am experiencing very slow connection (when connected) Most of the time my ppp and DSL lights are out and can go out 20 odd times an hour. Was thinking bout xnet. What are your experiences with xnet for high speed net???

Great so far, had a slight hick-up this afternoon, but it only effected people that had static ip addresses, and it seemed to be other ISP's as well who had customers with static IP's. A lot of our clients have moved from various ISP's to Xnet, and we have not had any problems with them since they have moved. One thing i like about xnet is they ONLY charge you for what you use you do not have to have a stipulated AMOUNT of data, the other great thing is there is no contract (min length of time) hence there are no penalties if you move away from them, our speeds and many of our clients speeds have doubled from what we were getting with other ISP's.

When you have an issue like this changing ISP won't help as there is a fault somewhere either in your house wiring or the line. Wire pair between house and exchange can be changed. DSLAM port can be changed. Disconnect all your phones to start troubleshooting process. Record router sync speeds and attenuation figures. Compare attenuation figure to real distance from exchange to determine what speeds you should get.

If you go over what you estimate what you need for the month, they will slow your speeds, you just go to their site and move a data amount slider up and your back to full speed.... that i found to be very handy.

Next step would be to get a known could router and run that. Compare result. If DSL still disconnecting start getting Telecom involved via ISP.

Amanda although i answered your Q "what are your experiences with Xnet" i agree with spyware, in your case i would be doing a very thorough test of not only the equipment you have in the house, but also get a line test done as you will probably find its faulty hardware/line/exchange that is causing most if not all of the problems...

Who do i ring then .... if it is a line prob. Slingshot dont seem to want to know about it, they said it was my PC, but soooo many other slingshot customer seem to having same "modem lights out" prob ...

So you have tolls and DSL with slingshot and phone line its self with telecom? Whoever the actual LINE RENTAL is with i would phone them and get the physical line tested....
geek_amanda22March 16, 2008, 3:04 pm#9
I have all my phone services with slingshot, (line and net)
geek__sexylady_March 16, 2008, 3:05 pm#10
Ok well then phone slingshot and say that you would like a test to be run on the physical line.... they will communicate with the correct people to carry out that test....

Keep us updated Personaly i have never liked slingshot, to many people i know have had problems with them, have you checked ALL the filters in the house? one thing i would try is just having ONE phone in the house pluged in (to a filter) and the internet, if you have any more phones unplug them from wall. If its still faulty then try a different filter still with only one phone pluged in, unfortunatly it seems quite common for the phone filters to go belly up.

Right ... just got off phone, he said to borrow a friends modem and try that, lol there is so much to check, lol and because its not a constant problem ie its different every day, some days no disconnection other days seems im offline more than online, its a hard one.

Yes i would try another modem as well But are they going to run a test on the line? They should do that regardless.
